WELCOME! I hope new folks will join us in this fun little addiction.
The first page will be wide because of some of the images in the tutorial
below, but they're well worth it. If there is anything you think I should
add to this, please let me know. There's an awful lot of info out there, but this should be good to get you started.

Squirrel Scrolls
Just post if you want your scroll (or your mom's or daughter's scroll) added
Please try to visit the scrolls each day (if possible) to view the
dragons and give them some clicky love. Many have more dragons than
can fit into their sig, so this is the best way to make sure everyone's
dragons get viewed.
If you wish people to click on the eggs and hatchlings in your scroll, please be considerate of the time it takes to go through these, and sort your scroll with the eggs and hatchlings showing at the top.

DRAGON CAVE
This is a site where you can snag eggs and raise them through hatching
and into adulthood. You can even breed them once they're grown. There
are many types of dragons, some much more rare than others, and some
are not even dragons! TJ is the person who owns the site. He's young and
busy, but does a wonderful job on the site. He does like to be mysterious
though, and he doesn't like it when people share too many secrets.
Dragon Cave can be found HERE
You'll need to register so that you can have a Scroll. This tracks your
eggs, hatchlings, and dragons.
When you go to the main cave, there may or may not be eggs there.
Eggs found in the main part of the cave are considered to be wild
eggs, or caveborn. If there are eggs, they will have a question mark
on them and a description of the egg. It is meant to be a surprise
how they turn out. If you feel like cheating I have a hidden list later
in this post.
If there are no eggs available in the cave, you can go to the abandoned
page. Here, you will find eggs that are not wanted for one reason or
another. Very few of these will be caveborn eggs. Sometimes a person
will accidentally pick up a caveborn that they don't want and then
abandon it, but this page is usually full of eggs that have been bred
by people with adult dragons. Once you have the egg, you will be able
to see the names of its parents and trace its lineage. This can be fun
as some people have given their dragons rather interesting names.

Dragon Cave's forums, which require a separate login, can be found HERE. This forum is huge.
If you poke around, you can generally find the information you need.
If not, just ask here.
There is also a "Soft Shell Guide" on the Dragon Cave forums
to help just in case your egg gets sick.

Resources:
The DC Fansite is a great resource! Here are the basic buttons.
A more extensive tutorial created by Lysambre is at the end of this post.
To hatch the eggs:
To get hatchlings to mature:
ONLY for eggs/hatchlings with less than 3 days left:
Another egg ER
Daily Dragon Fix
a fan site that generates clicks for all registered eggs/hatchlings. Some rules:
* Members must have at least 20 clicks a day in order to keep their dragons listed.
* Accounts that have not had any clicks for 4 weeks will be deleted.
* It is courteous for users to remove dragons if they are hidden (aka fogged).
Admins are authorized to remove them on sight.
Megan has volunteered to put other people's eggs in her account for clicks and such.

Accepting Aid from Others:
If you want other people to be able to post your eggs elsewhere to help get
them views and clicks, then you need to go under your account settings and
make sure that you have checked that you will accept help from others.
Otherwise, they can post them all over the place, but it won't do any good.
Fun Fact!
You can sort your dragons! Under account settings you can choose to sort
your dragons by breed, gender, stage (egg, hatchling, etc.) and more.
It's a nice way to organize and see what you might be needing to acquire,
or how many of each kind you have and such
HAVING TROUBLE COMING UP WITH DRAGON NAMES?
http://www.polenth.com/fun/dragon.cgiIncubators
If someone has an incubator in their sig, it is merely an image link to their
scroll. Once taken to the scroll, everything on it will get a view. If you
want to add clicks, then you can click on them from there.
If you want to generate an incubator for your sig, go under your account
settings and choose "generate incubator". From the options, choose what
you want to have shown. I just do the eggs and hatchlings. Choose "Upload
to ImageShack if you want the pretty scroll graphic with your name.
Remember! The incubator does not get views and clicks for your eggs.
Someone has to click on the incubator and go view your scroll in order
for it to work. So, if you want to ensure views, just put the eggs in
your sig directly. Also, your incubator does not evolve with your scroll.
You need to generate a new incubator when your scroll changes. Well,
you don't *have* to, but if you want it to show your current batch, then
you do.
Gifting/Trading eggs
You can try to give someone else one of your eggs or hatchlings (as long as you haven't named it). However, the procedure isn't as simple as handing it over. When you are giving someone an egg, you are abandoning it, and they are picking it up. They simply have something of an advantage.
Here's how it works:
I want to give Trish and egg that I have. She logs into the DC site and then types in
http://dragcave.net/abandoned/xxxx where xxxx is the 4 symbol code for the dragon. When she hits enter it will tell her she can't find the dragon. That's okay. Once she's ready, she posts or emails me or IM's me, and then she starts refreshing. The simplest way to refresh frequently is to use the F5 key.
Once I know Trish is refreshing I go in to my account and abandon the egg. The egg will show up very briefly on the abandoned page, which means there is a small chance that someone might actually be fast enough to click on it before Trish refreshes. It kinda stinks, but it's the way it is. Hopefully, however, Trish will be refreshing and suddenly see the code page, which tells her she got the egg.
Once Trish has the egg, and entire day will have been added to the time it has left to hatch. This is a result of the abandonment process. All abandoned eggs and hatchlings get an extra day to hatch/mature before they die, and this is true for eggs traded because they are still considered to have been abandoned.

You can only get them during special release dates, depending on the season. >Neglected Dragon - Rumor has it that you can still get this dragon, but nobody knows how. Anyone who does know won't tell because TJ09 will burn their scroll if they do. Yeah, it's that big of a secret. >Zombie Dragons Used to be available but they have been discontinued with no real hope of them ever being re-released. >Alternate Black and Alternate Vine Dragons - have the same descriptions as their regular counterparts.. The difference is in the coloring of the hatchlings...and you can only get them from the Abandoned page or breeding. You'll never pick up an ALT on the main cave. (See accompanying graphics below.) |
END HIDDEN
ALT Dragons
Black Dragons and Vine Dragons occasionally come in an ALT form.
The eggs look exactly the same, but you can tell the difference once
they hatch. ALTs only come from breedings, never from the wild cave.
This means you'd have to pick a green or black egg up on the abandoned
page and see what happens when it hatches. Or you can breed for it
yourself if you want.
These are only the images of the hatchlings, not actual clickable hatchlings.

Hatchery/ER tutorial by Lysambre (Thanks! Lysambre!)
So the first step is to go to the man page of the website : right here
You can see the three important links on the left.
Hatchery is for your eggs, as long as there are more than two days remaining,
this is where you put them (I'll go through that process in a second).
Daycare is the exact same process, except it's for your hatchlings instead of
your eggs.
Emergency room is for your eggs or hatchlings who have less than 3 days remaining
before they die (eggs are on average supposed to hatch around 3.5 days). You only
put your eggs here in case of... emergency . But if you used the hatchery and
daycare I doubt you'll ever need it.
So how does it work from here.
You click on "hatchery" and find yourself : here
There's only one important part on this page, as noted on the picture.
I used animallover's scroll for the example of what to do next :
Enter your scroll's name, then click on submit.
You'll arrive on a page similar to this one :
You should see your eggs only (if you are in the daycare, you'll see your hatchlings
only). Choose the eggs/hatchlings you want to add, click submit, and that's it, all
done . Your eggs/hatchlings will be automatically removed after four days, and it's
always better if they don't get too many views on their first day anyway, so I would
advise to only add them after a day or so, this way you don't have to worry about
adding them again .
I know this is a lot, but I'll just add one more link, just in case you get an egg
with "soft shell" or a hatchling getting sick, they explain it all and how to make it
better : right here.
If you need help with putting your eggs in one of these places, just ask.
I can do it. Lysambre has offered to do it. I'm sure someone will be willing/able
to help you.
